The Toronto Marlies defeated the Texas Stars by a 6-1 final at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto on Thursday to secure the first Calder Cup victory in franchise history.

There was Ontario Junior Hockey League content in the American Hockey League championship team photograph:

• Mason Marchment scored twice during Game 7 of the AHL championship series. The son of former NHLer Bryan Marchment played for the Cobourg Cougars of the OJHL in 2013-14. The 23-year-old forward is from Uxbridge.

• Travis Dermott played 37 games for the parent Toronto Maple Leafs before rejoining the Marlies in the playoffs. Dermott, 21, played defence for his hometown Newmarket Hurricanes in 2012-13.

• Kyle Baun was acquired by the Leafs Feb 25 in the Tomas Plekanec deal. The Toronto native played for the Toronto Junior Canadiens of the OJHL from 2008-10. The 26-year-old is the grandson of Leafs legend Bobby Baun.

The Marlies won the best-of-7 series 4-3 to claim their first Calder Cup since moving to Toronto at the beginning of the 2005-06 season.

Under head coach Sheldon Keefe, who played for Bramalea in the OJHL and coached the Pembroke Lumber Kings of the Canadian Junior Hockey League, the Marlies went 15-4-1 during this spring’s AHL playoffs.
