Montpelier, Vt.-  The Blue Sox accomplished an eight inning comeback to defeat the Mountaineers 6-5. Earning the victory after 10 innings, the Sox improve to a 4-0 record on the road, and a 4-2 record overall.

The first two innings leaned towards the Blue Sox, the team jumping out to a quick 1-0 lead, off a single by Tyler Kapuscinski (Marist College), driving in Andre Marrero (Quinnipiac University). On defense the team accumulated six consecutive outs in the second and third propelling the Blue Sox and preventing the Mountaineers from scoring until the fourth.

The next few innings did not go the Blue Sox way,  errors and miscues resulted in a few Mountaineer runs. An error in the 3rd allowed a run to score in the third, and then later another unearned run thanks to a pass ball. The Mountaineers tacked on a run from a single and two more runs in the fourth and sixth innings to grab a 5-1 lead.

The game started to heat up in the eighth inning after single by Jaylen Smith (Kennesaw State University), followed by an error on Vermont scored Richard Constantine (Western Kentucky University), cutting Vermont’s lead by two. Tallying two more runs late in the inning, the Sox tied the game at five thanks to a big double from Ciaran Devenney (Mercer CC).

In extra framers, Freddie Landers (Savannah State University) hit a ball that proved to difficult for the Vermont SS to handle, scoring Jake Coro to take the lead. From there on out, Matt Kent slammed the door with two punch outs for the save.

“I thought we did a really good job settling down,” head coach John Raiola said. “Our bullpen kept us in the game.”
