ADRIAN, Mich.--Adrian College Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of Chaislyn Burgio as the new American Collegiate Hockey Association Division 2 women's head coach and ACHA Division 1 women's assistant coach for the Bulldogs.

Burgio comes to Adrian after serving on the Northern Cyclones coaching staff in Hudson, N.H., where she was the assistant coach for the girls' junior team, a member of the Eastern Women’s Hockey Conference, during the 2017-18 season.

“I’m thrilled to be welcomed to Adrian College where the athletic programs receive the utmost support from the administration and college’s community," Burgio said. I see no end in sight in the ACHA women’s hockey programs’ success, and I’m excited to jump on board and contribute to their mission of remaining as two of the top ACHA teams in the country.”

Director of Athletics Michael Duffy added: "We are glad that Chaislyn has accepted our offer to join the coaching staffs of our nationally-reknowned ACHA women's hockey programs. Her experience as a NCAA Division I and III student-athlete, combined with her coaching at the Juniors level, will serve her well at Adrian. I look forward to seeing Chaislyn grow our ACHA D2 program which is set to start its second season of competition."

Burgio inherits an ACHA Division 2 program that is scheduled to return 17 student-athletes off a team that posted a 16-4 overall record and won the Central Collegiate Women's Hockey Association regular-season crown with a 10-0 conference record in its first campaign in 2017-18. The Bulldogs went 1-2 in the ACHA Division national championship tournament.

She will assist ACHA D1 women's head coach Brett Berger who has guided that team to a 109-31-13 record and three ACHA "final four" tournament appearances in as many years.

A native of Quincy, Mass., Burgio attended Thayer Academy in Braintree while playing youth hockey for the Bay State Breakers before going on to play NCAA Division I at Merrimack College beginning in the fall of 2014. Burgio was the first goaltender in program history, as she was a part of the school’s inaugural team which entered the Hockey East Conference for the 2015-16 season. After her time at Merrimack, Burgio joined the UMass Boston NCAA Division III women's hockey and softball teams and received her bachelor of arts degree in psychology in 2017.

Burgio is completing her master's in higher education with a concentration in leadership and organizational development from Merrimack College.
