Harris Homers Twice, Jackals Rout Dominican

For the second consecutive night, the New Jersey Jackals dominated the Dominican Republic.

 

The Jackals took game two of the series 15-0 Wednesday night, one game after scoring 19 runs.

 

The Jackals gained an early lead scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. First baseman Danny Canela drove in center fielder David Harris and second basemen Seth Spivey. Shortstop Carlos Triunfel also singled up the middle to bring Canela home.  

 

In the bottom of the second, left fielder Connor Hoffman hit an RBI double to score third baseman Gerald Bautista. Spivey also delivered an RBI to score catcher Kevin Torres.

 

Harris homered in the bottom of the third for his fourth of the year to increase the score to 6-0.

 

Bautista later scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth and designated hitter Dean Green hit a sacrifice fly to score Torres. Spivey singled to centerfield to score Hoffman.

 

Torres then drove in right fielder Nolan Meadows in the bottom of the fifth to turn the score into double digits, 10-0.

 

Harris hit a two run home run in the bottom of the six, his second of the game and first multi-homer performance of 2018. Bautista also hit an RBI single to left field scoring Triunfel.

 

Torres ripped an RBI double to right scoring Bautista and Meadows, making the game 15-0, New Jersey.

 

Starting pitcher Alberto Rodriguez dominated on the mound, firing seven scoreless innings while striking out 9 and allowing only four hits.

 

Jackals reliever Jordan Wellander was summoned from the bullpen in the top of the eighth and also had a great outing.  Wellander struck out five while only allowing two hits.

 

The Jackals go for the sweep in the third game of the series on June 14. First pitch is at 7:05.
