Langley Tournament

Date:  Source: Victoria Mariners

This, past weekend would see the premier Mariners battle to a 2nd place finish at the Langley Blaze annual tournament falling just shy of a victory. The weekend started on a soggy note with a depleted roster (a large contingent of the team were at grad ceremonies) falling to Ridgemeadows 5-2. The second game of the day was cancelled due to rain.

Day two – reinforcements arrive, a bit groggy but ready to play. The Mariners faced the Sherwood Park A’s with Endo getting the start and surrendering the ball after 2 1/3 innings to Doorschot who pitched the remainder of the game and earning the win. Mariners defeated the A’s 11-6. The next game saw Heintz get the start against the Okotoks Red team - Mariners defeat the Dawgs 8-5.

On Sunday the Mariners faced off against the Okotoks Black team in the semi-finals. Collette toed the rubber and the Mariners defeated the Dawgs 4-3 in a dramatic tension filled 10 inning game. The game had it all, great pitching, timely hitting and coaches ejected (not Chewp or Longpre).

The finals would see the boys in blue take on their northern neighbours from Parksville. The pitching staff, on short rest, did their best to secure a win, however, despite battling hard the team was defeated 7-5 by the Royals.

Next up the Mariners take on the Eagles on June 14th.
