Rafe Chaumette – Chaumette was superb in his sophomore season at Trinity University, leading the Tigers in batting average (.392), hits (67), triples (5), RBIs (47), OBP (.449), slugging (.596), and OPS (1.045). The outfielder started all 42 games in 2018 and swiped 13 steals in 14 attempts. The Sugar Land, TX native was named First Team All-SCAC in 2017, hitting .344 with two homers and 38 RBIs as a freshman.
Buddy Hayward – Hayward was impressive in his freshman season at Harvard, leading the team in strikeouts per nine innings, whiffing 47 batters in 40.0 innings of work. The right-hander from Plantation, FL went 2-3 with a 4.27 ERA in 14 appearances (five starts), and also had two doubles and seven RBIs in 48 ABs at the plate.
Nick Matera – The catcher from Roxbury, NJ returns to the Bay Sox lineup after appearing in 37 games for New Bedford in 2017, hitting .240 while finishing second on the squad with four home runs and 19 RBIs. Matera led Rutgers in doubles (13), home runs (5) and runs batted in (35) during his junior season in 2018 while starting 48 of the Scarlet Knights’ 50 contests.
Tyler Zell – Zell, a junior from nearby Marion, MA, ended 2018 with the second-lowest earned-run average among Suffolk pitchers, allowing just ten earned runs in 39.0 innings for a 2.31 ERA. The Rams utilized the Old Rochester grad as both a starter and a reliever, and Zell ended with a 1-2 mark with one complete game and three saves in his 12 appearances (four starts).
