Winter Garden, Fla. - A number of former Squeeze players are enjoying success at all levels of baseball.

Yahir Gurrola (Philadelphia Phillies organization)

Gurrola, a right fielder, played previously for the Squeeze during the summer of 2015. While appearing in 33 games, he totaled a .214 batting average overall. Prior to attending the University of North Florida, Gurrola played two seasons at Midland College, breaking single season school records in doubles (29) and RBIs (80) and had a .417 batting average.

While at North Florida, he appeared in 57 games, 244 ABs, 51 RBIs, nine HRs and earned a .320 batting average. Safe to say, Yahir was having himself a year; leading to the next best thing: the 2017 MLB Draft.

Since then, Gurrola has been moving up in the Phillies organization, moving from GCL Phillies (Rookie)  to Williamsport Crosscutters (Short Season A) and currently plays for the Lakewood BlueClaws (Class-A). He has seen 81 games in his Minors career, with 269 ABs, 31 RBIs, and a .249 batting average.

Kyle Marsh (Embry-Riddle)

Redshirt junior Kyle Marsh played for Winter Garden in 2017. He attended the University of Central Florida for three seasons, missing his sophomore season due to injury. Marsh is a player that can play the infield just as well as he can pitch.

While starting and appearing in 61 games and hitting a .307 with six HRs and 52 RBIs at UCF, Marsh chose to return closer to home, and attend Embry-Riddle.

Since returning home, Marsh has earned All-Sunshine State Conference honors, as well as first team NCBWA All-American honors, and was just announced D2CCA All-Region Team.

He is Embry-Riddle’s first NCAA II All-American.

He led the team in batting average (.393), hits (77), RBIs (59), runs (59), slugging percentage (.653), and on-base percentage (.467) this 2018 season.

Drenis Ozuna (Connors State College)

Orlando native Drenis Ozuna knows how to hit the ball. While playing for the Squeeze in 2017, he maintained a .250 batting average. But, it doesn’t stop there.

For Connors State, he played 37 games this 2018 season, hitting 11 HRs, 60 RBIs, and a .391 batting average.

Cody Burgess (Florida Southern)

A familiar face around this area and a West Orange alum, Burgess is making a name for himself in the Sunshine State Conference, earning ABCA All-South 2nd Team; NCBWA All-South Honorable Mention; and All-SSC 1st Team (OF).

With a total of 48 games played thus far, a .287 batting average with 12 HRs, 47 RBIs and 11 stolen bases, Burgess is leading him and his team to the DII College World Series.

Florida Southern is ranked #1 going into the tournament, as they are set to play #8 ranked Southern Indiana.

The Winter Garden Squeeze is widely represented in all realms of college baseball at the higher level as well as minor league baseball. Always keep your eyes “peeled” for our Squeeze family.
