Sights Set on 2018 Season

Mountaineer Hockey General Manager Todd Gookin has announced the hiring of Steve Cagle to lead WVU's ACHA Division I hockey program.
Steve Cagle comes to West Virginia with 29 years of coaching experience, as well as a Level 5 coaching certification, the highest level of certification from USA Hockey. Cagle has experience coaching from youth to D3 college hockey including winning 2 high school city championships in Alabama. Most recently, he served as Head Coach of the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he led ACHA DivIsion III Program to its first 20 win season. In addition to coaching, Cagle has served as an off-ice official for the Birmingham Bulls East Coast Hockey League Team from 1991-2001 and the SPHL Bulls in 2017-18.
Cagle has also gained considerable hockey insights through his involvement in activities outside of his hometown of Birmingham. From 2008 through 2011, He worked in Guelph, Ontario at the Can/Am Hockey School, regarded among Canada's best instructional programs for players of all ages. Since 2012, he has coached at the distinguished Minnesota Hockey Camps. He will once again be coaching in this summer program this June and July prior to his arrival in Morgantown.
As part of his coaching philosophy, Cagle emphasizes the importance of "developing each individual hockey player by teaching the game in a fun and exciting way." He states that he is not only excited about getting started with the Mountaineers, but looks forward to opportunities to work with youth players in Morgantown's growing hockey community. Cagle will be participating in WVU's Youth Hockey Camp, which is tentatively scheduled for August 18th and 19th, 2018.
