SARNIA LEGIONNAIRES JUNIOR HOCKEY CLUB

ACADEMIC/SKILLED TRADES/CAREER TRANSITION AWARDS

The Sarnia Legionnaires Junior Hockey Club is pleased to announce a variety of $1,000.00 Canadian dollar scholarships and awards to assist all Legionnaires players who are ageing out of the Junior Hockey system.

These financial awards are aimed at assisting our players, transition from hockey and into further education at the college or university level, entrance into the world of skilled trades, and/or direct transitioning into a workplace, where financial support may assist with pre-employment training by a recognized training institute.

As part of the club’s Program of Excellence, this initiative is another way the Sarnia Legionnaires is  investing in our players. The Sarnia Legionnaires Junior Hockey Club is grateful to our scholarship/award sponsors who are assisting us to meet our financial obligation with the implementation of these awards.   and we acknowledge these individuals and/or groups at our year end awards banquet and on our website.

Eligibility

1.        Each candidate must have played for the Sarnia Legionnaires Hockey Club in their final eligible Junior hockey year and remain with the Club for the completion of the season.

2.       Candidates must be eligible to enroll in a College or University recognized by the Association of Universities and Colleges.

3.       Applicants have one full calendar year post season, to apply for the scholarship/award program.  This date will be determined by the on-ice season end date.

4.       All eligible candidates will be acknowledged at the year end banquet.

Academic Award

The award will be made once confirmation of enrollment is received for an approved College or University.

Skilled Trades Award

The award will be made once an eligible candidate shows proof of enrollment as an apprentice or an offer of employment in a skilled trade environment.

Career Transition Award

The award will be made once the applicant demonstrates the need for pre-employment training to enhance their employability and meet the criteria for training in a recognized training institute.

The Legionnaires want to ensure that all players are supported regardless of the career path they choose.  With a strong need in the labour market for skilled tradesmen, the awards reach beyond a direct transition to third level education.

The Sarnia Legionnaires are proud to announce that the recipients of this year’s transition awards are Captain Sam McCormack and forward Joey Zappa.  Both players made great contributions to the organization over their years with the club and the organization is very pleased to support them as they transition out of the Junior B system.  Best of luck with your future careers.
