“Coyotes on Top After 10th Straight Win”

Vancouver Island University Mariners vs. University of Fraser Valley Cascades

The Mariners and the Cascades split the four-game home and home series, both sweeping the day on the road. VIU took the first day in Chilliwack, 7-5, and 5-3, and UFV managed to win both for the split in Nanaimo on Sunday, 12-8 and 9-5.

UFV slugger, Riley Jepson, extended his hit streak to 14 games, with 8 hits on the weekend, and continues his reign atop the leaderboard in average at .468. Josh Berenbaum continued his strong start at the lead off spot, drawing 8 walks and contributing 5 hits in the weekend series.  On the mound for the Cascades, Dylan Emmons threw 5 innings, fanning 8 and allowing 4 hits in the final game of the series.

The Mariners’ offense was paced by INF Tanner Hess, and Devin Heck, as the two combined for 15 hits on the weekend. Pitcher Matthew Johnson worked 7 strong innings, surrendering 5 hits and striking out 5, earning the game 2 victory.

 

Thompson Rivers University Wolf Pack vs. Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs

The PBA Dawgs fended off a Wolf Pack team that was coming off a series sweep, winning all four over the Wolf Pack at home. Game 1 was a roller coaster victory for the Dawgs, besting the ‘Pack 15-14. The Dawgs finished the sweep, 7-6, 7-1 and 5-1.

PBA’s Kevin Floyd had a breakout weekend, going 8-17 with 10 RBIs and a Homerun. Pitcher Liam Sabiston had another quality start, throwing 7 complete, allowing 4 hits and striking out 7, earning a win.

The ‘Pack’s offense was highlighted by first-basemen Vance Fode, who had 8 hits in 13 at-bats, with 8 RBIs and a homerun. Pitcher Dillon Ferguson struck out 8 in 6 innings of work in the game 4 loss.

 

Okanagan College Coyotes vs. University of Calgary Dinos

With weather leaving Calgary’s home field unplayable, the Dinos traveled to Kelowna, and were the home team in the four-game series. The ‘Yotes extended their win-streak to 10 games with the series sweep. Davis Todosichuk went 5 for 5 in game 1, with 4 doubles. Todosichuk stole 7 bases on the weekend, and contributed with 8 hits. Frew reclaimed the league lead in RBIs, with 24. Jesse Poniewozik worked 4 strong innings in relief, surrendering 1 hit and earned the win in game 2. Cole Parussini recorded his second complete game victory on the year, striking out 9.

The Dinos were led offensively by first basemen Michael Ozga, as he recorded 6 hits on the weekend. Matt Zanutto contributed with a 3 RBI double in the game 2 loss. Cam Williams threw 8 innings in the game 4 loss, giving up 4 earned runs on 10 hits, recording 4 Ks. Game 1 starter, Jordan Smith, recorded 9 strike outs, and surrendering 3 earned runs.
