Goaltender Ervins Mustukovs is among nine players who will not be returning to Sheffield next season, the club has confirmed.

The Steelers held exit meetings with their import players on Monday, with Mustukovs, Jonas Westerling, Andreas Valdix, Joonas Ronnberg, Colton Fretter, Tim Wallace, Matt Marquardt, Andreas Jamtin and fan favourite Zack Fitzgerald all set to leave the club this summer.

“It has been a tough day,” Steelers Head Coach and General Manager Paul Thompson said “We wish every one of these players all the best for the future.

“Some will go on to find new clubs and serve them well and some may call it a day after fantastic careers that they should be very proud of.”

Thompson also singled out two of the departing players for special praise:

“Colton Fretter and Zack Fitzgerald, both have been outstanding servants to me and the club in my time. They have been both leaders and warriors and you will not find two better men anywhere”

Sheffield will now turn their attention to reinvigorating their side after finishing without a trophy for the first time in five seasons, Following Sunday’s 3-1 loss to Cardiff in the PredictorBet Playoff Final.

The South Yorkshire side had previously announced that their first pre-season game of the 2018/19 campaign would take place on August 11th 2018.
