STONEY CREEK GENERALS OPEN 2018 ALLAN CUP WITH 3-3 TIE

The Stoney Creek Generals opened the 2018 Allan Cup in Rosetown, Saskatchewan with a 3-3 tie against the host team Rosetown Redwings on Monday night. It was the second tie of the day as the South East Prairie Thunder and Bethune Bulldogs tied 2-2 in the afternoon game. 

The Rosetown Redwings opened the scoring in the first period at 4:42, but the Generals replied less than a minute later on a Rob Hisey goal from Jarret Konkle. Rosetown added a second goal of the period at 11:45 while shorthanded to re-take the lead as the Redwings took a 2-1 lead after twenty minutes, outshooting the Generals 14-9.

Konkle scored a shorthanded marker from Nik Bibic for the Generals mid-way through the second period to tie the game at 2, the only goal of the period as the Generals were outshot again 15-10.

The Generals took their first lead early in the third period as Matthew Bragg scored from Konkle and DaCosta at 2:20, but Rosetown scored on her power play at 6:53 to tie the game at 3. Despite scoring chances for both teams, Dave Brown for Stoney Creek and Tyler Steel for Rosetown kept the score tied at 3 through sixty minutes and overtime. The final shots on goal were 51-33 in favour of Rosetown. 

Stoney Creek’s Jarrett Konkle was the game’s top scorer with 3 points (1 goal, 2 assists), while Dave Brown made 48 saves. 

The Generals have the day off on Tuesday before facing the Lacombe Generals on Wednesday at 10:00 PM EST.
