CAMBRIDGE, ON (March 16, 2018) – Allan Cup Hockey announced its Annual Awards today for the 2017-18 Season. Allan Cup Hockey (ACH) is the business name for the OHA Senior “AAA” Hockey League that has a tradition dating back to 1891.Teams in the ACH compete annually for the Robertson Cup and the chance to compete for the prestigious Allan Cup, hosted this year in Rosetown, Saskatchewan April 9-14, 2018. 

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
Whitby Dunlops goaltender Mathieu Cadieux has been selected by his peers as the 2017-18 ACH Most Valuable Player. Cadieux finished the season with the best goals against average in the league at 4.32, and was 9-6-0 on the season with a .892 save percentage. In his second full season with the Dunlops, the Oshawa, ON native helped Whitby secure second place overall and was a major factor in the team’s success. Cadieux will also be nominated for the prestigious OHA Senior Player of the Year Award to be held at the OHA Awards at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto on June 1. 2018. 

LEADING SCORERS
Dundas Real McCoys forward Phil Brewer and Stoney Creek Generals forward Cam Fergus tied for the league scoring title this year with 43 points. Brewer had 24 goals and 19 assists in 23 games. The first year player from Cambridge, ON had four more goals than any other player and led the league with 5 game winning goals. Fergus had 17 goals and 26 assists in 19 games in helping lead the Generals to their third straight regular season title. Fergus, who hails from Brantford, ON, is in his second year with the Generals and led the league in assists and tied with six other players for the most shorthanded goals with 2.

TOP GOALTENDER
Mathieu Cadieux
 of the Whitby Dunlops has been named the 2017-18 ACH Top Goaltender.  The native of Oshawa, ON is in his second full season with the Dunlops and finished the regular season with a record of 9 wins, 6 losses and a league-best 4.32 goals against average. In 16 games, he allowed 66 goals on 613 shots in 916:48 minutes of playing time for a .892 save percentage, which was second best in the league. Cadieux was also selected by his peers as the league’s MVP.

BEST DEFENCEMAN
Matt Baxter
 of the Whitby Dunlops has been named the 2017-18 ACH Best Defenceman. The blueliner from Courtice, ON is in his fifth season with the Dunlops and he logged a lot of important minutes for Whitby this year and tied for the league lead in scoring by a defenceman with 21 points. In 22 games Baxter scored 2 goals and added 19 assists and finished the season without any penalties.

BEST ROOKIE
Tyler Hore
 of the Hamilton Steelhawks has been named the 2017-18 ACH Best Rookie. With a good first season of Sr. “AAA” hockey, defenceman Hore played in 22 games and scored 4 goals and added 9 assists for 13 points and helped the Steelhawks finish with their best season in their young franchise’s history. This first year player from Hamilton, ON caught the attention of his peers with his fine play all season long.

MOST SPORTSMANLIKE 
Brantford Blast forward Cameron Sault has been named the 2017-18 ACH Most Sportsmanlike Player. Sault, from Ohsweken, ON, played in 22 games for the Blast, and finished 9th in league scoring with 12 goals and 18 assists for 30 points, while only receiving 8 minutes in penalties in playing a skillful and disciplined game.

COACH OF THE YEAR
Stoney Creek Generals head coach Bryan Hamm was selected by his peers as the 2017-18 ACH Coach of the Year and will be nominated for the prestigious OHA Coach of the Year Award to be presented at the OHA Awards at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto on June 1, 2018. Hamm guided the Generals to their third straight regular season championship with a record of 15 wins, 7 losses and 2 overtime losses and 44 points for first place in the standings and home ice throughout playoffs.

TRAINER OF THE YEAR 
Dr. Nicholas Anthony from the Whitby Dunlops has been selected by his peers as the 2017-18 ACH Trainer of the Year and is the ACH nominee for the OHA Trainer of the Year Award which will be presented at the OHA Awards at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto on June 1, 2018.

REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONS
For the third straight year the Stoney Creek Generals were the Regular Season Champions, finishing with a record of 15-7-2. The Generals are now looking for their third straight Robertson Cup and third straight trip to the Allan Cup. The Championship Series between the Stoney Creek Generals and Whitby Dunlops begins Saturday, March 17 in Stoney Creek at the Gateway Ice Centre. Click here for a full series preview.
