New Tecumseth Civics defenseman Tyson Lambert has been recognized by the league as a runner up for the 2017-2018 Tyler Fines Rookie of the year Award which recognizes the best 2001/2002 birth year player in the league.

The 6 foot Lambert was the only non-goalie nomination in the category that included Seguin netminder Ondrej Kilmer and eventual winner Meaford goaltender Maris Saulgriezus.

While patrolling the blueline for New Tecumseth this season the 16 year old Lambert has earned a reputation division wide as a solid bodied defenseman with no quit in his game if there is a play to be made Lambert is not afraid to answer the call whether that calls for a big hit, a quick outlet pass, or an instinctive defensive assignment switch Lambert has shown he can do it, and he can do it well.

The British Columbia native Lambert, joined the Civics after being converted from a forward to a blue liner during his time with the Notre Dame Hounds AA program.

While playing with Notre Dame Lambert spent time playing forward but is a defenseman by nature – who established himself as a capable two way force while also seeing time on the Penalty Kill and the Power Play, roles he would continue to play following his joining of New Tecumseth this season.

Production wise Lambert put up a more than respectable 22 points throughout his Hounds career leading his team in points with 17 during the 2015-2016 season.

Lambert was humbled to say the least about being nominated as the league’s top rookie, “Being nominated for this award really makes me feel like all the work I put in and the contributions that my family makes wasn’t for nothing. Although I didn’t win the award I’m still very proud of myself and I’m using this as motivation to see how I can improve in the future.” Lambert was also very proud of the work the Civics have been doing as a team this year, “I feel like our group has gotten a lot closer in the second half of the season, we’ve learned to overcome lots of barriers and problems we had early on. I’m very happy with my performance this far and I can’t thank my parents, coach, and teammates enough for helping me get to where I am now.”

Civics President Nikita Vasilyev was proud of the young defenseman Lambert and had this to say, “Tyson is a player who has really matured this season and you have seen that all season long in his performance on the ice. He has consistently been one of the better young blue liners not only on our team but in the league and to see him recognized for his work is a true testament to the work he has put in and the value he has brought to our team this year.”

All of us in New Tecumseth are excited to see you recognized this season Tyson and are hoping that you can bring the same level of elite play into playoffs for all of us here in Civic Nation, Congratulations.
