The 2017-18 GOJHL Regular Season is winding down and with just two weeks left to play, almost every position across the three Conferences is still up for grabs. We are in for an amazing finish to the season.

In the Golden Horseshoe Conference, the Caledonia Pro-Fit Corvairs are close to clinching the top seed, but nothing is set in stone except for the eighth spot which has been locked up by the Fort Erie Meteors, and the Buffalo Regals will finish in ninth and out of the playoffs . Of note, the Regals picked up their first point on the road last night, taking the second place St. Catharines Falcons to overtime. The best race in the Conference is between the Welland Jr. Canadians and the Pelham Panthers for sixth place as the two teams are just one point apart with five games to play.

In the Midwest, the next win for the Listowel Cyclones will clinch first place and the Stratford Warriors will be locked into second, but behind them the battles are extremely tight. Waterloo and Elmira are only two points apart for third and the two teams will play one another two more times; it’s safe to say those will be intense games. The Kitchener Dutchmen can still move up, but it’s likely they will remain in fifth. The bottom three teams have been jockeying back and forth all season and the Brantford 99ers, Guelph Hurricanes and Brampton Bombers will be battling for sixth through eighth down the stretch with the chance to avoid playing one of the top two teams in the first round.

In the West, the London Nationals have lost four straight and have possibly opened the door for the Leamington Flyers and LaSalle Vipers, as London’s once insurmountable lead is down to just one (although London holds two games in hand over the Flyers). The most important race in the Conference however might be at the bottom as the Strathroy Rockets, Komoka Kings and St. Marys Lincolns are only separated by two points, and only two of those teams will make the postseason. It’s almost a guarantee this will be decided on the final day of the regular season on Sunday, February 25.

Other GOJHL News:
The St. Thomas Stars are holding their annual Fill the Rink night on Friday, Feb. 16 against the Chatham Maroons which is always a great night. The Pelham Panthers are hosting a Free Admission game when the Buffalo Regals visit on Sunday, Feb. 18. The London Nationals are holding their Fill the Rink Family Day Game against St. Thomas on Monday, Feb. 19. The Waterloo Siskins are having a food drive on Saturday, Feb. 24 when they host the Elmira Sugar Kings as the two teams battle for third in the Midwest. This is a great time of year for the teams across the GOJHL with playoffs around the corner, check out your local team’s website or social media and get to a game!
