  • The Embry-Riddle Eagles had their offense in top form over the weekend during a four-game home sweep of Felician. Things started on Friday night when Matt Russell (DeLand), Nick Dearing (ALT/WP) and Dominic Jeancola (DeLand) combined to shut down the Golden Falcons on the mound, while Zach Howard (Winter Park) powered the offense with five RBI. During Saturday’s doubleheader the Eagles threw up 31 runs, including 15 runs and 14 RBI from Florida League alumni Kyle Marsh (Winter Garden), Luis Olivier (Winter Park), Kyle Guttveg (Winter Park) and Howard. That included a walk off dinger in game two courtesy of Marsh. Howard then capped off Sunday’s game with a walk-off homerun of his own to complete the sweep. Embry-Riddle now sits at 6-2 on the year in their first season as a member of the Sunshine State Conference.
  • St. Thomas University enjoyed success over the weekend as well, taking two out of three from Division II Barry University. The trio of Sergio Lopez, Elih Marrero and Randy Oliva fueled the Bobcat’s offense. Lopez blasted two homeruns, scored six times and drove in five. Oliva had six hits (including two doubles and a homerun), three runs and six RBI. Marrero scored four times and drove in eight as St. Thomas touched the plate 39 times in the three-game set. Lopez and Marrero are both former River Rats, while Oliva was a member of the 2016 Altamonte Springs Boom.
