2018 CHE Playoff Announcement

College Hockey East has announced the sites, dates, and game times for its 2018 CHE Playoffs.  The format will put four teams from each of the four CHE divisions into the postseason, and nearly all of the league's teams are currently in contention for one of those spots.

The S&T Bank Arena in Indiana, PA, will be hosting the playoffs for Men's Division 3 and Women's Division 2 during the first weekend in March.  It is a venue that has hosted CHE Playoffs many times in the long history of the league, but this season will mark the first return there for postseason play since 2004.

The Rostraver Ice Garden will serve as the host to the Men's Division 4 and Men's Division 5 Playoffs over the final weekend of February.  It is a familiar location for CHE postseason play in recent seasons, but this time around, the venue will have a fresh look as the home of Hockeyville USA 2017.  In addition, one semifinal game for Men's Division 5 will played at the Center Ice Arena in Delmont, PA on Friday, February 23rd.

College Hockey East will have four champions among its 26 member teams in 2018, marking the third-straight year the league has crowned four postseason victors.  California University of PA (M3), Penn State Altoona (M4), Edinboro (M5), and Buffalo (W2) stand as the defending champions from last season, and three of those teams currently sit atop their respective standings again this season.  But all 16 men's teams remain in contention for a 2018 postseason berth, and five women's teams are still vying for the four spots in the W2 playoffs.  In addition, Pittsburgh has clinched its first-ever CHE playoff berth in Women's Division 2, and Liberty remains in the hunt to do the same.  Saint Francis has also clinched its first-ever CHE playoff berth in Men's Division 5, and long-time CHE member Allegheny College seeks to join them in the playoffs for the first time in over a decade.  Similarly, Indiana University of PA is a long-time member of College Hockey East, and after competing outside the league for several seasons before rejoining in 2016, they are seeking their first appearance in CHE Playoffs since 2010.
