Oakville, Ontario – The Oakville Blades are pleased to announce that forward Thomas Maia has committed to the Rochester Institute of Technology for the 2019-2020 NCAA hockey season.

Maia has had an electric first season with the Blades, topping his OJHL rookie season with 36 points in 33 games. Maia's strong first-half has placed him first in team scoring, making him a threat every single time he hits the ice.

A native of Brampton, Ontario, Maia previously played for the Milton Icehawks, where he finished third in team scoring with 35 points in 53 games. Maia was previously drafted by the Mississauga Steelheads back in 2016, opting to go the college route for the future. The left winger won seven GTHL titles during his life, topping it off with an OHF championship before moving to junior.

"We are extremely excited for Thomas with his vey deserved commitment to RIT,” said Blades General Manager Jordan Selinger. “He has been an excellent addition to the Oakville Blades organization both as a hockey player and a young man. We have no doubt he will follow in the long line of Oakville Blades that have been able to excel at the next level."

The Blades are back in action on Sunday with a 2:00 PM start against the Wellington Dukes. Oakville’s next home game is next Friday when the Blades host Orangeville at 7:30 PM. Hope to see you there!
