DOPS RULES ON THREE INCIDENTS

The Elite League Department of Player Safety automatically reviewed three incidents following Week 3 of the 2017/18 season.

MK Lightning vs Braehead Clan - Saturday 16th September 2017

Milton Keynes Lightnings’ Kevin King was assessed a Match penalty for Kneeing at 56:22 of the third period.

Using the Referee’s Report and the video footage, the Department of Player Safety has decided this will be upheld and the penalty stands.

RULE 153 – KNEEING

DEFINITION: A skater who extends his knee for the purpose of making contact with an opponent.

  1. A skater who uses his knee to make contact with an opponent will be assessed at least a minor penalty.

  2. A skater who injures or recklessly endangers an opponent by kneeing will be assessed a major penalty and automatic game-misconduct penalty or match penalty. 

This offence carries an automatic one game suspension, and the Department of Player Safety has increased this by a further one game, making it a total of two game suspension.

King has already served one game of the suspension, which was on Sunday 17th September 2017 (Manchester Storm vs Milton Keynes Lightning), therefore he will miss the following game:- 

Saturday 23rd September 2017 - Milton Keynes Lightning vs Cardiff Devils

Fife Flyers vs Edinburgh Capitals - Saturday 16th September 2017

Edinburgh Capitals’ Marek Tvrdon was assessed a Match penalty for Abuse of Official at 51:56 of the third period.

Using the Referee’s Report and the video footage, the Department of Player Safety has decided this will be upheld and the penalty stands.

RULE 116 – ABUSE OF OFFICIALS

DEFINITION: An attempt by a player or team official to usurp the power of an on-ice official, demean or degrade an on-ice official, call into question the integrity or ability of an on-ice official, or physically confront an on-ice official.

v. Match Penalty

  1. A player or team official who makes contact in any way with an on-ice official and is detrimental to the conducting of a game.

This offence carries an automatic one game suspension, and the Department of Player Safety has increased this by a further two games, making it a total of three game suspension.

Tvrdon has already served one game of the suspension, which was on Sunday 17th September 2017 (Edinburgh Capitals vs Belfast Giants), therefore he will miss the following games: - 

Saturday 23rd September 2017 Dundee Stars vs Edinburgh Capitals

Sunday 24th September 2017 Edinburgh Capitals vs Braehead Clan

Coventry Blaze vs Braehead Clan - Sunday 17th September 2017

Coventry Blaze forward Marc-Olivier Vallerand was assessed a 2+10 Checking from Behind penalty at 1:15 of the first period.

Using the Referee’s Report and the video footage, the Department of Player Safety has decided that no further action will be taken.
