BROCKTON, MA—July 29th, 2017— The Brockton Rox earned a victory tonight against the Seacoast Mavericks by a final score of 9-8. The late innings of the game had plenty of drama, ending with the Rox scoring the go-ahead run on a controversial play at the plate in the bottom of the 8th inning. Kyle Simon (Palm Beach Atlantic) scored from third after Chris Berry (North Florida) got into a rundown between first and second base. The throw was very close but Simon was called safe by the umpire, firing up the Seacoast bench.

The Rox (26-19) jumped out to an early lead in the top of the 1st, scoring three runs off a 2-RBI single from Ricky Smith (Merrimack College) and an RBI from Sam Cochrane. (Eckerd College) After being down by three going into the bottom of the 7th, the Rox went on to score four runs and take the lead highlighted by a RBI from Tremaine Spears. (Louisiana-Lafayette)

The Mavericks (22-23) were led offensively by Jake Lebel (NYIT) who went 3-4 on the night, with two home runs and a double. Jimmy Palmer (Southern CT) tied the score at 8-8 after scoring on a pass ball in the bottom of the 8th.
