PBL CHAMPIONSHIP
For only the second time in PBL history the team with the best regular season record has won the PBL Championship. The North Shore Twins defeated the Parksville Royals 4-3 to claim the title.
Leading to the Championship Game a qualifier game was needed after round robin play as Parksville, Langley and Abbotsford each had 2 – 2 records. The Royals were awarded 2nd place in round robin while Langley and Abbotsford played to determine 3rd place.
In the qualifier game the Abbotsford Cardinals Matt Pidlisecky with a bomb over the left field wall gave his team an early 1 – 0 lead. Cardinals starter Kaiden Cardoso ran into trouble with 3 walks in the 5th leading to four Langley Blaze runs. The Cardinals went to their bullpen and brought in Brett Jackson followed by Travis McDougall. Their offense came alive in the 6th scoring 3 runs (Kieran Finn, Kyle Stewart RBI’s) to tie the game at 4 heading into the 7th. In the 7th, Cardinals pinch hitter Dayton Peters drove in the winning runs with a double to deep center field. McDougall retired the 7 Blaze batters he faced. Final Score Cardinals 6 Blaze 4.
The Semi Final saw Royals lead off hitter Shane Rogers open the game with a single, scoring on Jayden Marsh’s RBI single. Royals starter Josh Laukkanen and Cardinals Tasei Yahiro battled toe to toe for 5 innings. The Cardinals scored 1 run on the 3rd and with three doubles and a walk in the 6th added 3 more. (Damiano Palmegiani 2 RBI, Kayden Beauregard RBI). In the bottom of the 7th Royals Cam Mc Neil hit a leadoff HR, Shane Rogers followed with a single. Cardinals went to Travis McDougall in relief of Yahiro—Zach Waddington with a double and Jayden Marsh with an RBI single gave the Royals to the walk off win.
In the Championship Game the Twins built an early 4 – 0. (Noah Or 2 / 3 with 3 RBI) . The scrappy Royals came back in the 5th scoring two unearned runs on three hits (Zach Waddington, Nolan Baker RBI’s) and added another on Shane Rogers leadoff HR in the 6th. Twins Jack de Cooman relieved starter Dan Sereda and held the Royals off the score sheet retiring them in order in the 7th. Final Twins 4 Royals 3.
