ROY TO BACKSTOP NATS THIS SEASON

ROCKLAND- The Rockland Nationals are pleased to announce the signing of 2001 goaltender Zachary Roy. He will join his Toronto Nats teammate Jordan Power as they start their Junior careers in Rockland. The Callander ON native was a 4th round OHL pick last season with Hamilton and he shined at the OHL Cup this past spring. He helped his team reach the final and earned a nomination to the OHL Cup All Star-Team. Furthermore, he was selected by Hockey Canada to attend their Program of Excellence Under-17 Goaltending Camp.

“Zach is obviously a tremendous pick up for us here in Rockland. He is a young goalie with very high potential who will help raise the profile of our organization as well as help up win on the ice,” said Head Coach and GM Dan Sauvé. “ Zach proved that he can play in pressure situations last season and that’s important for a young goaltender playing in our league. He will be working closely with our goalie coach Tyler Beskorowany.”

Tyler just recently stepped away from his playing career to join the Nats organization. He was an assistant coach with the Gloucester Rangers last season and will now take on many roles with the new team in Rockland, including that of being the goalie coach. Tyler was a Dallas Stars draft pick and spent time in their system and in Germany. He hopes to be a mentor for Zach and help him grow as a player and as a pro. “Having Tyler there to help our goalies is invaluable. His experience speaks for itself and he has a calm and controlled way of looking at things. Zach will be in good hands here,” noted Sauvé.

It’s no secret that 16 year-old goalies are rare this day and age in the CCHL but Zach is not one to shy away from a challenge. “ The CCHL is one of the best development leagues in Canada, and can be tough for a 16 year old goalie, but I intend to practice hard with a high compete level everyday to prove that I can play here,” Roy stated. “ I am excited about this opportunity in Rockland and I want to become better every day as a person and as a goalie which will lead me to the next level in my hockey career.”

Zach and the rest of the Nats begin their Training Camp August 19th at CIH Arena in Rockland. Come catch all the action!

ROCKLAND- Les Nats de Rockland sont fiers d’annoncer l’entente avec le gardien de but de 16 ans Zachary Roy. Ce dernier est le deuxième joueur provenant des Nats de Toronto qui se dirigera vers Rockland pour la saison 2017-2018 (Jordan Power étant le premier). L’originaire de Callander, Ontario a été repêché lors de la 4ème ronde sélection à Hamilton de la Ligue de Hockey de l’Ontario. Il a su se démarquer lors du OHL Cup au printemps où il a aidé son équipe à se rendre en finale. Pour ses efforts, il s’est mérité une nomination à l’équipe d’étoile du OHL Cup. De plus, il a aussi été sélectionné par Hockey Canada pour participer au camp de gardien U17 du Programme d’Excellence.

«Zach est sans doute un énorme ajout à notre organisation ici à Rockland. Il est un gardien avec un potentiel incroyable qui aidera notre équipe sur la glace et qui augmentera la visibilité de notre programme, » explique l’entraîneur en chef et gérant Dan Sauvé. «Zach a prouvé qu’il peut bien performer dans un environnement de haute pression et cela est important pour un jeune gardien qui entre dans la CCHL. Zach travaillera de près avec notre entraîneur de gardien Tyler Beskorowany.»

Pour sa part, Tyler a clôturé sa carrière de hockey l’an dernier et il s’est joint à l’organisation de Nats. Il avait le rôle d’entraîneur adjoint l’an dernier lorsque l’équipe fut à Gloucester. Il aura maintenant plusieurs rôles avec les Nats, comprenant celui d’entraîneur de gardien. Ce dernier fut un choix de repêchage aux Stars de Dallas et a passé du temps avec leur organisation et aussi en Allemagne. Il espère jouer un grand rôle dans le développement à Zach en jouant le rôle de mentor. «Tyler dispose un bagage d’expérience si précieux. Il est un individu calme et contrôlé qui aura un impact positif sur nos gardiens de but. Zach sera en bonnes mains avec Tyler, » explique Sauvé.

Zach comprend que ce n’est pas évident pour un gardien de 16 ans de faire le saut à la CCHL mais il est prêt pour le défi. « La CCHL est une des meilleurs ligue de développement au Canada et ça peut être difficile pour un jeune gardien de 16 ans mais j’ai l’intention de donner mon 100% à chaque présence afin de prouver que je mérite de jouer ici, » explique Roy.  « Je suis extrêmement excité pour l’opportunité devant moi à Rockland. Mon but est de m’améliorer à tous les jours comme gardien mais aussi comme personne. Je crois que ceci m’aidera à progresser dans mon cheminement.»
