Barrie's Spataro and Guerrero Named IBL Players of the Week

The Intercounty Baseball League (IBL) announced today that Barrie Outfielder Ryan Spataro and right-handed starter Emilis Guerrero have been named the League’s Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the period from June 19-25. This marks the second occasion on which the Baycats have swept the IBL weekly awards, with the first having come at the end of May (Branfy Infante & Emilis Gurrero).

Over the past week Ryan Spataro helped Barrie extend its lead in the IBL as the outfielder led the League with a .667 batting average, 6 hits, a home run, and six runs scored.

34-year-old Ryan Spataro is in his eight season with the Barrie Baycats. A former prospect of the Minnesota Twins, spent four seasons in affiliated baseball.

IBL Pitcher of the Week

Emilis Guerrero had another strong outing as he and the Barrie Baycats defeated the Burlington Herd 10-3. Emilis in 7.0 innings pitched allowed only two hits and allowed no runs to score. Guerrero also struck out 11 batters faced and walked 2.

Guerrero holds a 3.92 ERA with a 4-0 record. Among the 39 innings pitched this season, Emilis has struck out 41 and only walked eight.
