BROCKTON, MA—June 22nd, 2017—The Brockton Rox faced off in a shortened doubleheader, consisting of two-seven inning games, against the Worcester Bravehearts today at Campanelli Stadium. The Bravehearts took Game 1 by a score of 4-1 then took home a win in Game 2 by a score of 7-6
In Game 1, The Bravehearts (9-8) jumped out to an early lead when Brett Coffel (Saint Leo University) hit a solo home run in the top of the 2nd inning but the Rox (10-6) would answer in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on a wild pitch. Worcester would add another run in the 4th and two in the 5th off a two-run HR by Joseph Caico. (University of New Haven) Mason Palmieri (Bryant University) started on the bump for the Rox going four innings, giving up two runs on four hits.
Game 2 started off slow with no runs being scored by either team through the first three innings. It was Worcester’s Brett Coffel who would deliver first for the Bravehearts, hitting a 2-run double in the top of the 4th. Kevin Doody (University of Maine) would add a RBI single in the inning to give the Bravehearts a 3-0 lead.
It wasn’t until the bottom of the 5th inning that Rox would generate some offense. After scoring one run, The Rox loaded the bases with two walks and a hit-by-pitch. Then Kyle Simon (Palm Beach Atlantic) came up and hit a bases-clearing RBI double to make the score 4-3. After another wild pitch and a squeeze bunt by Sam Cochrane (Eckerd College) in the 6th, the Rox would take a 6-3 lead going into the 7th. However, the Bravehearts would go on to score four runs in the top of the 7th, highlighted by a 2-run single by John Friday (Franklin Pierce) to make the score 7-6. The Rox put up a fight in the bottom of the inning but couldn’t score any runs, ending the game.
The Rox have an off day tomorrow and will be back at Campanelli Stadium on Saturday night to take on the North Shore Navigators. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
