Francis Boisvert Signs with Ottawa

OTTAWA - Francis Boisvert, a 18 year old goaltender who played for Ulysse Academy last season, has signed a Standard Player Agreement with the Ottawa Jr. Senators for the 2017-18 campaign. Boisvert came to Ottawa's Evaluation Camp in early June as an unknown but showed incredible athletic abilities, and made several impressive saves during the weekend to earn a spot on the hockey club. He will be back in town on August 21st for the start of Main camp.
 
For Boisvert, the upcoming season will be an important time in his hockey career. He will have the opportunity to show people that he can have success at a higher level.
 
"I am very happy to sign with the Ottawa Jr. Senators. I came to camp with no expectations, and it was a pleasant surprise to hear that the team wanted to commit to me. I know I will be playing for a very good team so I want to make sure I will have the best hockey season of my young career."
 
For Head Coach & General Manager Martin Dagenais, it was important to add a goalie capable of battling for the number one job in nets.
 
"With Ian Andriano pursuing his hockey career at RIT, we had to sign who we thought was the strongest goalie at our Evaluation Camp. Our goalie coach, Stéphane Levere, thought that Francis was the best goalie during that weekend, and that he deserved to get a shot, that's why we committed to him."
 
A calm and steady goaltender, Boisvert will not shy away from playing the puck in order to support his defensemen.
 
"I generally don't lose my cool when I'm in nets. I'm very calm, and extremely athletic so you could say I try to emulate a bit of Carey Price, but also a bit of Marc-André Fleury. That being said, I think I have my own style, and that's what defines me."
 
For the short term, Boisvert simply wants to improve every day, but down the road, he would not mind pursuing a career in hockey.
 
"Obviously, my long term goal is to play NCAA hockey, and hopefully be able to play at the professional level whether it's in the NHL or in Europe. I think every player that joins a Junior A team wants to move to a higher level one day, and I'm no different.

OTTAWA - Francis Boisvert, un gardien de but de 18 ans qui évoluait pour l'Académie Ulysse, a paraphé une entente avec les Sénateurs d'Ottawa pour la saison 2017-18. Boisvert, qui s'était présenté au camp de l'équipe sans trop d'attente, en a surpris plusieurs avec des arrêts spectaculaires, surtout lors du dernier match présenté le dimanche. Il se rapportera à l'équipe le lundi 21 août, première journée officielle du camp d'entraînement de la formation ottavienne.
 
Pour le principal intéressé, il s'agit d'un moment important dans sa carrière. Il sait qu'il aura sa chance de prouver à plusieurs qu'il est capable de faire le boulot à un niveau de hockey supérieur.
 
"Je suis très fier d'avoir signé avec les Sénateurs après un camp satisfaisant. C'est le résultat de plusieurs années d'efforts. Je me suis présenté au camp sans attente et de savoir que je jouerai à Ottawa cette année, au sein d'une très bonne équipe, est un poids de moins sur mes épaules. Je suis prêt à connaître la meilleure saison de ma carrière."
 
Pour l'entraîneur-chef et gérant Martin Dagenais, il était important d'ajouter un gardien talentueux à qui on donnera la chance de se battre pour le poste de gardien numéro un.
 
"Avec le départ d'Ian Andriano, il était important de signer au moins un gardien à la fin de notre camp d'évaluation. Selon notre entraîneur des gardiens Stéphane Levere, Francis a été le meilleur gardien du groupe et c'est pourquoi nous avons décidé de lui offrir cette chance."
 
De son côté, Boisvert se considère comme étant un gardien calme dans son filet. Aussi, il n'hésite pas à manier la rondelle afin de relancer l'attaque et surtout alléger le travail de ses défenseurs.
 
"Je suis difficile à déranger. Je suis un gars assez calme, c'est dans ma nature. Cependant, je suis un gardien athlétique qui joue avec instict. J'essaie d'imiter un peu Carey Price, mais aussi Marc-André Fleury. Mais pour être honnête, je crois avoir mon style propre à moi et c'est ce qui me définit."
 
Comme objectif à court terme, Boisvert tentera tout simplement de connaître une bonne saison. Il veut se développer afin de passer à un niveau supérieur. À long terme, il ne cache pas qu'il aimerait poursuivre sa carrière d'hockeyeur après son stage junior.
 
"J'aimerais bien jouer au niveau universitaire afin de combiner mes études et le hockey. Je veux connaître une longue carrière au hockey et mon but est de jouer dans les rangs professionnels. C'est certain que la LNH est mon rêve ultime mais jouer en Europe serait une bonne option aussi."
