Father's Day Weekend Update

Date:  Source: BCPBL: White Rock Tritons 18u

As the Tritons club continue to take their schedule to the end of the school year and look forward to last third of the season before playoffs, all three teams are competing and setting the tone for that final push.  Bantam Prep is quietly sneaking up the standings, the Junior club continues to stay atop the league and the Seniors are in the middle of log jam trying to place themselves to host round 1 of the playoffs.

Bantam Prep: Congrats Prep boys! With a tough start to the year (4 – 11), the guys have compiled an 11 – 4 record over the past few weeks and have made it back to .500.  The youngest Tritons have worked very hard to get back to this spot and now look forward to getting into the top 5 of the league and an automatic birth to the Provincial Championships.

The past week saw the club go 4-1, starting with a very impressive 9 – 1 victory on Wednesday night in Abbotsford, one of the teams they have to catch in the standings.  From there, they split with the Victoria Eagles, 6 – 3 and 3-14, on Saturday at home. The Prep boys followed that with a Sunday sweep over the Langley Blaze Black by 6 – 3 and 7 – 3 scores.  A total team effort in all games as some banged up players did an outstanding job of meeting the goal of getting back to .500!  Coach MacDougall commented on the weekend being a grind but excited to see the guys string a number of victories together creating tremendous belief amongst the players!

Next up for the Prep club is a DH’er matchup vs. the Langley Blaze Black on Sunday at Milner Park in Langley.

Junior Tritons:  The club was scheduled for a busy week, but with rain on Thursday and a double booking of fields in North Delta on Saturday, the Junior club had a lighter week. All in all, the club managed to win 2 of 3 games. Wednesday night had the Abbotsford Cardinals come into town and throw 6 different pitchers, handing the Jr. club a 6 – 2 loss. Looking to avenge the early week loss, the club hosted the North Delta Blue Jays on Father’s Day and they did just that, sweeping the Jays 5-4 and 12-2. Game 1 wasn’t easy as it took extra innings in a back and forth game until the Tritons prevailed for a 5 – 4 victory.  The 2nd half of the DH’er the boys came out swinging and tallied 12 runs over 5 innings for a shortened 12 – 2 W. With those victories the club is once again at the top of the standings with a 23 – 7 and looks forward to a busy week of ball.

Next up for Jr squad: Five games this week starting with a Wednesday night road game vs. the Langley Blaze, a Saturday DH’er matchup vs. the North Shore Twins at Parkgate and then Sunday they come back home to host the Mid Island Pirates.

Senior Tritons:

The Senior team once again played only 2 PBL games this past weekend, splitting with the Victoria Mariners at SSAP. In Game 1, Tate Dearing threw 6.1 innings of 3 hit, shutout baseball. Cole Walter knocked in a run in the 1st inning, giving the Tritons an early lead while adding on another RBI late to give the team insurance as they won 2-0. Game 2 started off not as well, with the Seniors giving up 5 runs in the first inning. Tanner Carmont pitched 3 + scoreless in relief, allowing the Tritons to try to claw back. Adam VanDenBrink hit his 2nd HR of the year to give the team life, but more Mariner runs late put the game out of reach. Another rally late in the game was not enough as the Tritons fell 8-4. Nolan Webster returned to action, collecting 2 hits in game 2. The Tritons sit at 18-13, currently in 6th place in the PBL standings.

On Father’s Day, the Senior Team headed to Seattle to play against En Fuego Elite. The boys were spirited in their efforts, falling 6-3 in game 1 and tying game 2 0-0 before hitting the road home. A combination of Spencer Davis, Georgi Sugimoto and Johnny Vulcano threw a 2-hitter in Game 2. The team faced collegiate freshman from Div 1 schools as well as HS Seniors heading to a range of schools in the fall. A great experience for the guys!

Next up for the Sr. club: Midweek vs the Blaze at McLeod on Thursday before a very important 4-game set vs the Okanagan Athletics at SSAP. The Tritons look to get to 20+ wins by the next update!
