Ottawa - Head Coach and General Manager Martin Dagenais is pleased to announce that the Ottawa Jr. Senators have signed defenceman John Kuhl to a Standard Player Agreement. Kuhl, a New Jersey native, comes from the highly successful New Jersey Rockets organization which also produced standout rearguard Sean Rappleyea who played for the Senators for two years before moving on to play for the University of Alabama-Huntsville Chargers Division 1 hockey program.

The 17 year old Kuhl is extremely happy to join the Senators, and will arrive in Ottawa at the end of August for main camp.

"I became very interested in the Ottawa Jr. Senators when I had the opportunity to practice with the team and watch one of their games during this past season. I was very impressed with the coaching staff, the quality of play and the compete level that the players demonstrated." said an enthusiastic Kuhl.

Assistant Coach Francis Wathier, who runs the backend for the Senators, liked what he saw from Kuhl at the team's Evaluation Camp.

"He's the type of player that never puts his team in trouble. He keeps it simple which is what we want from a defenceman. At the same time, he impressed us in the way he was able to create offense from the blue line."

Kuhl believes that he can be an impact player immediately with the Senators, on and off the ice.

"I bring a high compete level and desire for the team to have success. I am also a very supportive teammate who brings a positive and energetic attitude on and off the ice."

The rookie rearguard really hopes that making the move to Ottawa will help him garner a NCAA Division 1 hockey scholarship.

"Hockey has always been my passion. I really hope that this opportunity will give me a chance to play at the NCAA level one day although I know that hockey is about more than just that. I enjoy being part of a team, and the camaraderie that comes with it."
