OTTAWA - Head Coach and General Manager Martin Dagenais is proud to announce the signing of Gabriel Morin. The former Sorel-Tracy Rebelle will suit up with the Junior Sens for the upcoming season. The Gatineau, QC native amassed 11 goals and 26 assists for a total of 37 points in 33 games last year in the Collégial AAA loop.

“The Ottawa Jr. Sens have an excellent hockey program and they have had great success in the last few years", mentioned Morin. "I have been talking to Martin (Dagenais) for a while now, and I felt Ottawa was the right spot for me. I think I'll be able to play an important role here."

For his part, Dagenais believes that Morin will be a player that people will come to appreciate after they see him play a few games.

“I believe Gabriel is the type of player who becomes better every time you lay eyes on him. He's a big body that isn't afraid to drive the net. He also competes in all three zones. We invited him to practice with us during our playoff run, and that's when I realized that we had to sign him."

Morin also thinks he can bring some leadership in the Senators dressing room. “I know what type of player I am, and I know how I can be effective on the ice. At the same time, I want to make sure I can provide leadership on and off the ice."

The 20 year-old winger would love nothing more than to help the Junior Sens go all the way this year.

“I want to help this team win the Bogart Cup. That being said, it would be nice to also win the Fred Page Cup so we can participate in the National Championship."

Morin, originaire de Gatineau, a marqué 11 buts et a récolté 26 mentions d'aide pour un total de 37 points en 33 parties la sasion dernière au niveau Collegial AAA.

​''Les Sénateurs d'Ottawa ont un excellent programme de hockey et ils connaissent beaucoup de succès depuis quelques années, a mentionné Morin. Je parle avec Martin (Dagenais) depuis un bon bout de temps et il était important pour moi de signer à quelque part où je me sentais voulu. Il est important pour moi de jouer pour une équipe qui m'aidera à développer mon potentiel.''

De son côté, Dagenais admet qu'il lui a pris un certain temps avant de comprendre l'apport que Morin pourrait apporter à sa formation.

"Je pense que Gabriel est le genre de joueur que l'on apprend à aimer après l'avoir vu à l'oeuvre à quelques occasions. Il a un gros gabarit et nous aimons la façon qu'il attaque le filet adverse. Il est aussi très responsable défensivement. Il est venu pratiquer avec nous durant les séries éliminatoires et c'est à ce moment que je me je suis dit qu'on avait besoin d'un joueur comme lui."

Morin est du même avis. Il croit aussi pouvoir apporter du leadership aux Sénateurs.

"Je suis un gars physique qui aime utiliser son gabarit, mais je pense aussi pouvoir aider dans le vestiaire en tant que joueur de 20 ans. Il est important de montrer l'exemple aux jeunes joueurs."

L'ailier droit de 20 ans aimerait bien aider les Sénateurs à se rendre jusqu'au bout cette fois-ci.

"Mon premier objectif est d'aider mon équipe à gagner le championnat de la ligue, c'est-à-dire la coupe Bogart. Mais c'est certain que ce serait plaisant de gagner la coupe Fred Page afin de pouvoir se rendre au championnat national."
