Date: Oct 19, 2018
KITCHENER - Team Alliance closed out its 2017 OHL Gold Cup experience with a 3-2 win over Team GTHL Blue, Sunday morning.
In the first, with a GTHL Blue defender caught pinching, Mason Howard and Stephane Crevier broke out of the Alliance zone on a two-on-one. The initial play was broken up, but Crevier stayed waiting at the side of the crease for a pass, which he finished on for 1-0 Alliance lead. Less than two minutes later, Alliance was back in the GTHL Blue zone, and working the perimeter. Keean Washkurak was at the tail end of the passing, beating Matthew Keeley shortside.
Alliance took the 2-0 lead into the second, but it would be GTHL Blue to continue the scoring. Near the midway mark of the second, Billy Constantinou took a wrist shot from the point, which was tipped in front by Daniel D'Amico to cut the Alliance lead in half, 2-1. Still in the second, with GTHL Blue on the powerplay and breaking into the Alliance end, Brandon Coe was left unattended at the side of the net and scored on a pass from Cody Morgan, to tie the game 2-2.
The only goal of the third, and eventual game winner, came just 3:57 into the final frame. Off a face-off, Mark Woolley blasted a shot in from the point. Keeley made the initial save, but with the rebound sitting on the edge of the crease, Aidan Prueter knocked it in, to give the lead back to Alliance, and handing them a 3-2 win.
Phil Tomasino from GTHL Blue was the leading scorer of the 2017 OHL Gold Cup. Team Alliance finished with a 3-2-0 record.
