KITCHENER – Christian Cicigoi made 20-saves and four different players recorded goals, as TEAM HNO closes out the 2017 OHL Gold Cup with a win over Team NOHA, Sunday morning.
Midway through the first, HNO capitalized on a powerplay to jump out to a 1-0 lead. Andrew Perrott and Tag Bertuzzi worked the puck around the perimeter, finding Keighan Gerrie open at the faceoff dot. Gerrie shot high blocker, beating Joel Rainville to open the scoring.
In the second, NOHA was on the powerplay near the nine-minute mark, and moving the puck quickly. NOHA set up low, and looked to have a sure goal on a cross-crease pass, but Cicigoi got across and his blocker up in time.
With just 25 seconds remaining in the first, Cooper Witherspoon added some insurance for HNO, scoring on a wraparound for a 2-0 HNO lead.
In the third, HNO added two more goals from Sam Brunton and Dalton Duhart to extend the lead 4-0. NOHA had a chance to get on the board on a breakaway Adam Bertrand, but Cicigoi made the initial save and two off of rebounds to secure the win and shutout.
Team HNO finishes the OHL Gold Cup with a win and overtime time loss, while NOHA’s goaltender, Rainville, lead the event in saves.
