The OJR MS Red Team defeated Spring Ford 5-3 to win the A No Check National Division Championship. The Wildcats displayed a balanced offensive attack that the Rams could not compete with. Owen McLaughlin scored the first 2 goals of the game; his first goal came in the opening period, with Dylan Gratton and Owen McPherson picking up the assists, when he deflected in Gratton's pass from the slot. McLaughlin continued the scoring into the second period when he backhanded a shot top-shelf, short side over the SF goalie. Gratton picked up the lone assist. Jackson Massey increased the Wildcats lead to 3-0 when he one-timed a pass from Gunner Winget, McPherson picked up the secondary assist on the goal after he centered the pass to Winget. SF cut the lead to 3-1 just under 30 seconds later. Ethan Venezia would put the 'Cats up 4-2, when he deflected a James Davis one -timer out of mid-air past the SF goalie. Josh Messinger picked up the secondary assist. SF would narrow the score to 4-3 before the end of the period, but that's the closest they would get. Dylan Gratton added some cushion to the Wildcats score in the final period at 5-3 when he snapped home a shot past the SF goalie; Own McLaughlin and Charlie Davis picked up the assists. Brandon Heck and the 'Cats defense would shut the door the rest of the game; Heck made 22 saves on 25 shots in the victory, while the offense took 32 shots at the SF goalie. This was team victory, and well earned by the Red Team. The team practiced together weekly and bought into Coach Gratton's work ethic, their efforts paid off with this victory.
