ACHA MEN’S DIVISION 1 HOCKEY RANKING CONCLUDES WITH UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL OKLAHOMA CAPTURING 2ND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN THREE YEARS

UNION LAKE, Mich. – (March 23, 2017)The University of Central Oklahoma defeated Ohio University 3-0 in the 2017 ACHA Men’s Division I National Championship Game to secure its second title in the last three years. Sam Rice, the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, lead the Bronchos to victory with four goals and four assists for eight points in four games played.

                                    

Despite the loss, No. 2 Ohio posts its highest finish since winning the 2004 National Championship Game. Minot State, the No. 1 seed, was unable to get past Central Oklahoma in the semi-finals to the season at No. 3, while Adrian College, who lost to Ohio 4-2 in the other semi-final to take the No. 4 spot.

 

A total of 59 teams competed in Men’s Division I this season, including three new teams: Arizona State University, Jamestown University, and the University of Utah. 

 

With the conclusion of the ACHA’s 26th season, there have been a total of 13 schools that have won the ACHA Men's Division I National Championship:

  • Central Oklahoma (2)
  • Illinois (2)
  • North Dakota State (2)
  • Arizona State
  • Davenport
  • Delaware
  • Iowa State
  • Minot State

The Central States Collegiate Hockey League leads the way with all five of its member teams ranked, while the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League has seven (of 9) of its member teams ranked, the Western Collegiate Hockey League has six (of 8) member teams ranked, and the Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League has four (of 6) member teams ranked.

 

The ACHA National Championships will be held in Columbus, Ohio for the second consecutive year, March 8-13, 2018.
