Minneapolis Hockey, with a history and tradition of well over 100 years, has announced its initial inductees into the Minneapolis Hockey Hall of Fame. The induction celebration will be held on March 18, from 12-2:30pm at Parade Ice Gardens in Minneapolis and is open to the public.
Each inductee or representative family members will be introduced to the public and presented with their Hall of Fame jersey and a commemorative plaque. In addition, 4by5 foot banners will be hung for each inductee at Parade. Hall of Fame Director Steve Jecha anticipates a very large turnout for the induction celebration including hundreds of current Minneapolis Youth Hockey players and their parents.
“This is truly a celebration of the incredible history, tradition and achievements of Minneapolis hockey,” Jecha said. “The accomplishments of our inductees should definitely be recognized and serve as an inspiration to all our youth players.” Jecha further emphasized that Minneapolis hockey players were a product of both the parks they skated at and the high schools they went to. “Seventeen Minneapolis Parks and nine Minneapolis Public High Schools are represented by our inductees. All of Minneapolis is a part of our hockey history.”
Consequently, representatives from the Minneapolis Park Board and the Athletic Directors from each high school will attend the induction celebration. In addition, Jecha and Minneapolis Hockey welcome everyone who played or had connections to Minneapolis Hockey over the decades, as well as any and all other fans of hockey.
The Hall of Fame and incredible stories about the inductees can be found online at: www.mplshockeyHOF.com. The inductees include four Stanley Cup winners, a 1960 Olympic gold medalist, a 1980 Olympic gold medalist, NHLers and more.
