The drought ended for the Brockville Braves and it finished in a big way.
The Braves hadn’t scored on home ice in their two previous games heading into Friday’s matchup against the Pembroke Lumber Kings, but in their most recent game the well was far from dry as Brockville went on to beat Pembroke 4-1.
The Braves home drought latest 150 minutes and 53 seconds until they finally broke the cold spell and it was probably the perfect players to have snapped it.
A little less than a month ago, Braves co-owner and general manger Dustin Traylen called out Noah Jordan and Corey Caruso, saying they needed to contribute more to the goal column.
The pair hadn’t done much in the early timeline from when their GM originally singled them out. On Friday, though, Traylen was on the bench instead of his usual spot in the stands and both Caruso and Jordan gave something to Traylen to talk about.
Caruso built off his two-goal performance last weekend against the Kanata Lasers and added to it Friday when he found the back of the net midway through the second period when the Braves had a 5-on-3 power play to tie the game 1-1.
After starting the season white-hot, Caruso had cooled down over the last couple months scoring just once in 13 games before getting the goals the last two games.
In the third period Jordan gave Brockville the lead on another power play goal when the puck bounced off Pembroke netminder Jake Smith’s chest, prompting to Jordan to slip in front of the net and grab the rebound.
Jordan also scored in the game against Kanata last weekend, which was actually Traylen’s first game joining the coaching staff on the bench.
The Braves only built their lead from there with a goal off the stick of Colin Tonge, another player you could argue is always under a microscope with the club.
The 18-year-old winger came to Brockville in a big trade in the off-season, along with Caruso, with the expectations of always having to produce.
He hadn’t found the back of the net in five games before scoring his 17th goal of the season on Friday.
Devin Moore rounded out the scoring on a beauty goal with the Braves completing three consecutive one-touch passes before the rookie forward wired home his 19th of the season.
Brockville now gets a bit of a break before taking on the Cornwall Colts on Thursday and then they will head back home Friday to play the Nepean Raiders. The Braves next home game will be the team’s jersey giveaway night where anyone who buys a general admission ticket will receive a Braves jersey. Last year the promotional event was the club’s most attended game.
