Brockville broke out of its scoring slump to salvage a split of its games on the weekend.
The Jr. A Braves came back from a two-goal deficit to edge the Kanata Lasers 4-3 on Saturday night. The road victory ended a four-game losing streak and enabled Brockville to stay even with Kemptville for fourth place in the CCHL Tier 1 Robinson Division.
Braves assistant captain Corey Caruso opened the scoring on Saturday and got the game-winner at 3:31 of the third period, barely a minute after Devin Moore had tied the score. Noah Jordan had the other Brockville goal. Moore, who also chipped in with an assist, was named first star. Caruso was the game’s third star.
Henry Johnson made 28 saves and picked up the win in net for Brockville, which outshot Kanata 34-31.
The Braves had opened the weekend at home against Carleton Place on Friday night. The division-leading Canadians scored in each period and kept the Braves off the scoreboard to win 3-0. Connor Hughes made 28 saves to earn his sixth shutout of the season. Derek Bureau, a recent addition to the Brockville lineup, was named third star. Henry Johnson faced 37 shots in the loss.
There was a moment of silence before the Braves’ game started in honour of Rolly Evans and Mathew Carroll, both of whom passed away earlier in the week.
Brockville (25-22-0-1) will host Pembroke on Friday, Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m. The Braves had seven more wins than the Lumber Kings as of Sunday morning.
The CCHL regular season ends on March 12.
