The 2017 World U20 Hockey Championships are underway in Toronto, Ontario this week and there is a significant Elite Edge Hockey Showcase feeling on one of the teams.

Team Latvia’s roster features five Elite Edge graduates, as well as assistant coach Karlis Zirnis.  The players on the national junior team have all participated in Elite Edge over the past two summers.

“We have had a great showing of players who have visited Elite Edge from Latvia over the past few seasons,” said Program Director Brandon Walker.  “Obviously with the connection Karlis has to top players from Latvia along with his connections to our camp and the Nashville area it is a very good fit.”

Karlis Custke participated in Elite Edge two years ago and was a 5th round draft choice (130th overall) of the San Jose Sharks that same summer.  He is currently playing at Quinnipiac University and has nine points in 19 games as a freshman.

Also playing for Latvia with Elite Edge experience – Filips Buncis (Johnstown, NAHL), Denijs Romanovskis (HS Riga), Richards Bernhards (Springfield, NAHL) and Valters Apfelbaums (HK Prizma).
