Growing up did you always want to be a hockey player?
I knew at a young age that I wanted to be a hockey player when I got older. All I ever wanted to do was play hockey with my friends.

Where did you play minor hockey?
I played for the Eastern Ontario Cobras from Minor Atom to Major Pee-Wee. In Minor Bantam I started playing for the AAA Eastern Ontario Wild and skated with that organization for three seasons until the Cumberland Grads Jr. ‘A’ team selected me.

Were you born in Rockland and have you lived there your entire life?
I was born in Orleans, Ontario and moved to Rockland when I was 4 years old.

What was your best playing moment in minor hockey?
My best minor hockey moment was my Major Bantam year with the Wild. We had quite the season. Our team finished in first place in the regular season and ended up winning the league championship. From there we then went to provincials and finished third in the province. That whole year was easily my best minor hockey moment.

Describe your time, so far, with the Cumberland Jr. ’A’ Grads?
Playing for the Cumberland Grads has been the greatest challenge in my hockey career. The jump from Minor Midget to Junior ‘A’ hockey was not easy, especially as a 16 year old.
I was also used to winning a lot with the Wild and that was not the case with the Grads. My first two years we did not make the playoffs, however it was a great learning experience. Over time I feel that both my game and I have matured quite a bit.
In those first two years, I was able to experience different mindsets from various coaches. I really enjoyed last season (2015-2016) which was my third year with the Grads. We started winning the majority of our games, became the highest scoring team in the League and made the playoffs for the first time in six years. In addition, it was a personal best for my-self with (36-35-71 pts) to finish in third place in CCHL 1 league scoring.

Describe how you felt when the University of Vermont made an offer to you?
Words cannot describe how I felt that day. Getting an offer from a Division I school was my next goal at that time in my hockey career. After my visit to Vermont I fell in love with the school and could not refuse such a great opportunity.

What will be your Major at UVM?
I will be studying to become a Civil Engineer.

With this being your last year in Cumberland, what would you like to achieve this season?
I would like to make the playoffs and get some more experience under my belt. I want to improve my skills and strength to create the smoothest transition possible from Junior ‘A’ to NCAA Division I Hockey.

Describe yourself as a player
I am a fast and skilled player. I do not have the luxury of size so that means I have to be quick and smart to make up for it. I have a great vision and feel that possess a high hockey IQ on the Ice.
I not the type of player that will dump and chase, I like to have control of the puck and create dangerous scoring chances for my team.

What do you do when you are not playing hockey, any hobbies, pastimes, interests?
I have a part time job working in Accounts Payable for a Garage Door Company that requires around 20 hours per week. When I am not at work or playing hockey I take an online college class at Athabaska University. During off season I keep the same job.  When I’m not working I’ll be at the gym or playing golf.

Coach Favreau’s Thoughts:
“Marty is part of the foundation for our team. He’s a tremendous player and great leader, I always liked the way he played and carried himself on the ice when I coached against him during my time in Gloucester. Since joining the Grads in the spring of 2015 I have had the chance to get to know Marty a lot better and appreciate his skills, character and passion for the game of hockey.”
