This is your second season in the CCHL. How did you find out about the Grads and what made you decide on playing for them?
Cumberland head coach Sylvain Favreau contacted me in the spring of 2015 to come out to the Grads pre camp. It was a no brainer knowing that he had a very good reputation and that playing for him in Cumberland and the CCHL would be an incredible opportunity to potentially get an NCAA offer.

Where did you play minor hockey?
I played minor hockey in the Dollard des Ormeaux hockey association which is in a Montreal suburb. During three years of Midget I played for the Lac St Louis Royals, Chateauguay Grenadiers and the Lac St Louis Lions.

What is the biggest difference between your minor hockey days and life in Jr. ‘A’ in the CCHL?
The biggest difference between minor hockey and Jr. ‘A’ is definitely the compete level at every practice and in every game. Each game is hard fought with maximum intensity as most guys are trying to develop for the next level. In addition, I’m living away from home so I have to make sure I take care of myself, manage my time and be disciplined.

What are your hockey goals?
My biggest goal for hockey is to get some form of scholarship at an NCAA school or in the CIS. Once I am done studying I would love to play professional hockey.

Have you spoken with any schools?
I've spoken to a couple of Division 1 NCAA schools, but I try to not focus on it too much as my biggest goal right now is to do my part to get the Grads in a playoff spot.

What do you like most about playing in Cumberland?
Playing with the Grads has been and continues to be an awesome way to spend my junior hockey career. I've met some amazing teammates that have become great friends and continue to develop along the orders of our great coaching staff.

Talk a little bit about your DJ business and where you may take that.
Aside from hockey, I love to DJ and play guitar. Staying well rounded is important as it allows your brain to expand to other activities other than hockey. During the summer I had a lot of gigs as a DJ in and around Montreal. I really enjoy getting a crowd going with my music.

Coach Favreau’s Thoughts: “Ryan has been a great addition to our program. He came to the Grads last year right out of Midget AAA hockey and learned about how to play in the CCHL. This season he is our number 1 goalie and is developing into one of the elite goaltenders in the league.”

Coughlin was recently named to the roster of the Yzerman Division All Stars that will be competing at the 2016 Eastern Canada All Star Challenge.

The event will be held in Cornwall, Ontario at the Benson Centre from November 14-16. This will be the sixth year for the All Star Challenge and the second straight held in Cornwall.

Nine other teams including a squad from the Robinson Division will be in attendance.

The OJHL will send four teams from that league (Hawerchuck, Oates, Nieuwendyk and Coffey) along with single representatives from the NOJHL and LHAAAQ.

The Maritime Junior Hockey League will have two squads (North & South) in Cornwall.

The Yzerman Division representatives will be led by Sylvain Favreau, Grads head coach.

Cumberland skaters Zachary Salloum, Grant Hebert and Martin Frechette are also a part of the Yzerman Division’s 20 player line-up.
