CHICAGO (August 6, 2016) — The Chicago Mustangs announced today the hiring of assistant coach and assistant director of soccer operations Jose Trevino. Trevino, 40, is a former Mexican second division player for Cachorros UANL and Atletico Celaya Reserve.

The Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico native has four years of coaching experience. He was the assistant coach for Monterrey Flash from 2013-14 in the Premier Arena Soccer League. Following a Central Division runner-up finish in the PASL, Trevino served as an assistant for the club’s Major Arena Soccer League team. He helped the Flash capture Division, Conference and MASL championships in the 2014-15 campaign.

The next two years, Trevino was the assistant coach for Soles de Sonora in the MASL. In 2016, Trevino helped guide Soles de Sonora to the top spot in the Pacific Division and Southwest Conference. The club finished runner-up in the MASL.

“We are very excited to bring Trevino to our franchise,” head coach Armando Gamboa said. “We are confident his experience with Monterrey Flash and Soles de Sonora will help us with our objective to bring another national title to Chicago.”

Trevino’s most recent position was head coach of the Tulsa Tornadoes in the PASL during the summer of 2016. Trevino has five years of experience as a referee from 2007-11 in the PASL, Major Indoor Soccer League and Liga Mexicana de Futbol Rapido Profesional.

Founded in 2012, the Chicago Mustangs compete in the Major Arena Soccer League. The Mustangs are the 2014 Ron Newman Cup Champions and 2014 U.S. Open Minifutbol Champions. The Mustangs are stationed in the Grand Sports Arena and play their home games at the Sears Center in Hoffman Estates.
