Program Overview
We are extremely excited to offer to the students enrolled at Holy Trinity Catholic High School the opportunity to enroll in a Hockey Canada Skills Academy. This program allows students to engage in hockey training during school hours. Holy Trinity Catholic High school has the ability to schedule a timetable that will allow hockey students to participate in daily training sessions. Students participate in on-ice and off-ice skill development and training which is designed to complement/enhance skill development opportunities within their minor hockey associations.
Who can apply?
Any boy or girl who is registered at Holy Trinity Catholic High School for September 2016 can apply. Not attending Holy Trinity ... not a problem! Just complete a school registration form which is available at the school. This is a hockey skills program; thus any student regardless of hockey skill level may register. This program is reserved for grade 11 and grade 12 students. If you have a passion for the game and you are motivated to improve your game, then this program is for you! Do not wait to register as space is limited.
Cost?
This is a cost recovery program; for $2000 for a semester, your child will be provided transportation from the school to Kanata Rec Center, have daily on-ice or off-ice hockey skills/developmental curriculum designed by Hockey Canada under the guidance of Jeff Jordan. After the session, interested students will be supervised during a quiet study time to facilitate their own transportation. All participants are expected to have their own equipment.
How many hours per week?
Students will have a regular school day but after their third period, they will be bussed to the rink in order to participate in their fourth period (hockey training) which is credited for their Ontario Secondary Certificate. This is a 5 day per week program that follows the school calendar. The students will have 3 days per week for on-ice hockey skills development supplemented with off-ice components such as nutrition, dryland training, special guest lectures and video analysis.
Curriculum
The head instructor of this program is our very own Jeff Jordan, Head-Coach of the Jr. A Kanata Lasers. This instructor holds the highest Hockey Canada’s certification. Our well educated and experienced hockey expert/instructor will bring the components needed to outline the progression of the teaching and learning. Under Jeff Jordan, every hockey skill will be broken into teachable parts, and time spent in mastering the learned skills. The participants will have the time and the proper immediate feedback to correct and improve their skills. The students will spend time improving every skill in a sequential manner, spending more time at working to improve their skills rather than playing structured games.
Outcome
The outcome is to enhance a hockey student's confidence, individual playing skills, self-esteem and opportunities to bridge academics and athletics beyond the secondary school setting.
