MASL TEAMS SEND PLAYERS TO ONTARIO FOR US-MEXICO CLASH

Date:  Source: Major Arena Soccer League

ONTARIO, CALIF. --- Major Arena Soccer League stars representing eight teams will take the field of Ontario’s Citizens Business Bank Arena on Monday as part of the first-ever MASL International Challenge.

The game, which will kick off at 7 p.m. Pacific, will feature former league Most Valuable Player Kraig Chiles of the San Diego Sockers and former Rookie of the Year Gordy Gurson of the Cedar Rapids Rampage representing the United States. Team Mexico will be represented by top players from Mexican-based teams Atletico Baja and Soles de Sonora, including Baja’s leading scorer Christian Gutierrez. Also joining the squad will be Mexican-born players from San Diego, Turlock and the host Ontario Fury.

“To get some of the best arena soccer players from our league in one place will be a great showcase for our league and the city of Ontario,” said Bernie Lilavois, the President of the Ontario Fury. “We are excited to show our fans the best in arena soccer and continue to build the momentum for next season.”

Players will also participate in a first-of-its-kind practice session and scouting combine that will be Sunday at the Scheu Family YMCA of Upland. Players looking to impress management from the member MASL clubs during the tryout sessions will join some of the MASL pros on the field. Players will have a chance to earn their way onto the final roster for Monday night’s game.

Besides Chiles and Gurson, the United States team will feature players from the Fury, Turlock Express, Las Vegas Legends and San Diego Sockers. US National Futsal Team player Nelson Santana of the Fury will be on the squad, as will be US National Indoor Team veteran Matt Clare of San Diego.

The Mexican side will include the Ontario Fury brothers Jose and Juan Gonzalez, who are part of a team that will represent the United States next month in Brazil at the Neymar Jr.’s Five Tournament international championships.

“The caliber of players that will be in the spotlight in this game shows not only the current stars of arena soccer, but some of the players who will be the backbone of this sport in the future,” said Lilavois, “And by holding the combine, we hope to find the next stars who will captivate the fans of this sport.”

Monday’s game will be streamed live on Go Live Sports Cast, the official broadcast partner of the MASL. Tickets for the game are still available at the Citizens Business Bank Arena box office or online at AXS.com. For more information, check MASLSoccer.com or OntarioFury.com.
