Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kanata Lasers defeated the Gloucester Rangers in a shootout 2-1 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams.

Kanata came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Lasers fell behind 1-0 after a goal by Gloucester's Drew Shields at 13:55 in the first period. Kanata knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Tyler Young at 19:31 in the second period.

The Lasers were led by goalie Jordan Vachon, who finished with 37 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Vachon will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 4.75.

The Rangers were unable to stop Kanata from sending pucks towards the net, and the Lasers eventually piled up 51 shots on goal.

In addition, Kanata received assists from Yannick Martel and Taylor Carlson, who each chipped in one.

Gloucester put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Kanata to score on any of its three power plays. The Rangers forced the Lasers goalie Vachon to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Gloucester were Jacob Kendrick and Dan Martin, who contributed one each.

Kanata incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Gloucester's Doug Johnston stopped 49 shots out of the 50 that he faced. The Rangers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
