Smiths Falls holds on for 4-2 win against Gloucester

The Gloucester Rangers tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Smiths Falls Bears would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2.

Smiths Falls made the score 4-1 on a goal by Corey Caruso at 5:01 in the third period, and Gloucester got as close as 4-2 when Paul Vella scored 14:02 into the third period.

The Bears put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Rangers to score on any of their four power plays. Smiths Falls kept Gloucester's goalie busy throughout the game, and Doug Johnston made 27 saves on 31 shots.

The Bears were helped by Michael McKenney, who grabbed one goal and one assist. McKenney scored 6:51 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Smiths Falls. Matthew Kenney picked up the assist. Smiths Falls also got points from Kenney, who also had one goal and one assist. Broydon Stufko also scored for Smiths Falls. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Joey Rutkowski, who had two and Chris MacMillan, Sterling Bray, and Cole Busschaert, who contributed one each.

The Rangers' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to Smiths Falls' power play unit.

Gloucester was helped by Sander Boroczky, who registered one goal and one assist. Boroczky scored 18:46 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Smiths Falls. Vincent Guimond assisted on the tally. Gloucester additionally got points from Vella, who also tallied one goal and one assist.

Dyllan Lubbesmeyer made 18 saves for the Bears on 20 shots. Smiths Falls incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Rangers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
