Penetang survives Midland comeback, wins 7-5

The Midland Flyers almost clawed their way back from a four-goal deficit, but the Penetang Kings managed to pull out a 7-5 win in the end.

Penetang led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Kings' Matt Gill scored on the power play at 1:24 in the second period to put Penetang up 5-1.

The win by the Kings broke a deadlock and gave Penetang a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Braeden Dorion had two goals to lead the Kings to victory. Dorion's tallies came at 1:32 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Penetang and 9:58 into the third to make the score 6-5 Penetang.

Penetang forced Midland's goaltenders to work without much rest, finishing with 39 shots and forcing 32 saves. Grant Belanger made 31 stops and Jake Norton made one.

Penetang additionally got points from Craig Robinson, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Gill, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Matt VanBoven, who also had one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Penetang included Nate Archer and Matt Prucha, who scored one goal each. In addition, Penetang received assists from Caleb Stephens, who had one and Brad Kuepfer and Matt Meher, who contributed three each.

The Flyers' offense rang up 34 shots on the Kings' net. Midland's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Andrew North recorded 29 saves for Penetang. The Kings incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Flyers totaled 27 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Midland ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bobby Logan was ejected from the game.
