The Clarington Eagles survived a determined comeback attempt by the Little Britain Merchants on the way to a 3-2 win.
A goal by Ben Pitchforth put Clarington up 3-0 in the second period, but Little Britain pulled to within one on Terry Snoddon's tally 18:38 into the third period.
The Eagles could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Clarington puts an average of 5.2 pucks into the net per game. The Merchants were unable to stop the Eagles from sending pucks towards the net, and Clarington eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. The Eagles found themselves short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays.
Clarington was helped by Collin Weston, who had one goal. Weston scored on the power play 59 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Clarington. Dan Michel assisted on the tally. Clarington also got a goal from Kevin Smith as well. Other players who recorded assists for Clarington were Dylan Howorko and Cody Kean, who each chipped in one.
Little Britain was held below its usual level of production. The Merchants average 4.5 goals per game.
Little Britain was helped by Hayden Long, who registered one goal. Long scored on the power play 16:41 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Clarington. The Merchants had taken the advantage when the Eagles' Braden Gray got sent off for high sticking. Aidan Renouf picked up the assist. Little Britain also got points from Snoddon, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Little Britain received assists from Keegan Cairns, who had one.
Zack Wainman rejected 28 shots on goal for Clarington. The Eagles registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Adam Harris made 28 saves for Little Britain on 31 shots. The Merchants incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
