16U GIRLS - Stoney Creek Showcase Champions

The Little Caesars 16U Girls path to the Stoney Creek Midget Showcase championship game came in a dramatic fashion.  It was the type of game that had a simple game plan for the Little Caesars team, “never give up”.  In the semi-final matchup verses the Chicago Young Americans the never give up message was heard loud and clear.

In the third period the Chicago Young Americans were up by a score of 1-0 with :27 seconds remaining in the game.  But keeping the pressure on, the Little Caesars girls were able to net a game tying goal within these final seconds.  The resilient “never give up” attitude carried into the overtime period with the eventual game winning goal occurring within the first shift of the overtime period. The team gathered around on the ice to celebrate their advancement to the Championship Final and to rejoice in the effort made my Grace Markey for scoring both goals for Little Caesars.

The team then looked ahead to the California Wave in the championship final.  Coming away with a 3-1 victory coach Paul Goliniak noted, "as a team we bought into the game plan to keep our shifts short.  Both teams were ridiculously tired from a long weekend, but by us approaching the game with the plan to keep the shifts short it helped us to get and maintain a lead”.

A win like this is a good confidence builder, especially after a disappointing shootout loss in a tournament just the weekend before.  But the girls in the locker room will tell you, our goal is to win Nationals and this weekend’s Championship victory is just a benchmark for us measuring ourselves early in the season”.
