SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Champion City Kings are revealing one player from the 2015 roster each Friday this offseason. This week, the Kings present pitcher Jacob Burke from Wright State University (NCAA DI, Horizon League), who will join the club for the upcoming season, which will begin May 27 against the Richmond RiverRats at Carleton Davidson Stadium.
Burke appeared in 15 games out of the bullpen last Spring for Wright State. The right-hander struck out 14 batters through 15 2/3 innings.
"He's Another good sized pitcher that pounds the zone and does not give up many walks," said Kings Manager Chris Perkovich. "Champion City has had success with Wright State pitchers as Luke Mamer was one of the top pitchers on the staff last season."
Burke is no stranger to playing summer baseball at the collegiate level. Last year, the right-hander pitched for the Grand Lakes Mariners of the Great Lakes Collegiate League. With six starts (8 total appearances), Burke amassed a 3.54 ERA.
"After the summer, Jacob is going to be a senior, which means that he will bring experience and that cannot be taught," said Perkovich. "I expect him to continue his success from previous years including last summer and do well for the Kings."
The Kings begin the 2015 season at home Wednesday, May 27 against the Richmond RiverRats at 7:05 p.m. Season ticket and advertising information is available by contacting General Manager Rick White via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
