Jaden Shrier made 35 saves to complete the shutout and led the Wingham Ironmen to an 8-0 win against the Mount Forest Patriots.
Justin Jacklin had two goals to lead Wingham to victory. Jacklin's tallies came at 2:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wingham and on the power play 10:12 into the third to make the score 8-0 Wingham.
The Ironmen's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Mount Forest power plays. Wingham was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. The Ironmen gives up 2.7 goals on average per game. Mount Forest was unable to stop Wingham from sending pucks towards the net, and the Ironmen eventually piled up 50 shots on goal. Wingham's goal total was higher than its season average. The Ironmen have scored at the pace of 4.6 goals per game during the current campaign. Wingham could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 36 minutes in penalties during the game.
Wingham also got points from Alex Kuntz, who also racked up two goals and one assist and Ryan McNeil, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Wingham included Darren Kerr, Bailey Poels, and Matt McCracken, who scored one goal each. In addition, Wingham received assists from Carter Stewart, who had two and Brett Brophy, Greg Hansford, Josh Stewart, and Broedy Karelse, who contributed one each.
The Patriots could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Mount Forest averages 4.3 goals per game. The Patriots forced the Ironmen goalie Shrier to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Mount Forest's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Patriots finished with 54 penalty minutes.
Wingham registered two goals on 12 power play opportunities. Cole Wardlaw made 42 saves for Mount Forest on 49 shots.
