Huntsville holds on for 5-3 win against Midland

The Huntsville Otters survived a determined comeback attempt by the Midland Flyers on the way to a 5-3 win.

Huntsville made the score 5-2 on a goal by Tanner Hamilton at 1:13 in the second period, and Midland got as close as 5-3 when Evan Buehler scored 17:43 into the third period.

Myles York had a great game for the Otters, netting two goals. York found the back of the net 16:34 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Huntsville and again while on the power play 23 seconds into the second to make the score 4-2 Huntsville.

Huntsville was often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and one major for 47 minutes in penalty time. The Otters had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Huntsville also got points from Hamilton, who also registered one goal and one assist. Huntsville also had goals scored by Corey Miller and Brendan Fitter, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Elliott Lade, who had two, Jesse Houlton, who had three, and Jay Dix, Josh Zantingh, Jake McIntyre, and Jamie Halnan, who each chipped in one.

The Flyers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 46 minutes in penalties during the game.

Midland was helped by Matt Smith, who had one goal. Smith scored on the power play 11:40 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Huntsville. The Flyers had taken the advantage when Huntsville's Cody Jones APM got sent off for roughing after whistle. Jason Stone picked up the assist. Midland also got a goal from Daniel Pickering as well. In addition, Midland received assists from Steven Pickard, who had one.

Connor Christianson made 20 saves for the Otters on 23 shots. Huntsville registered two goals on six power play opportunities. The Otters ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tyler Brown was ejected from the game. Jake Norton recorded 22 saves for Midland. The Flyers registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
