LONDON SPORTS PARK REFRESHED, REFURBISHED THROUGH MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR CAPITAL INVESTMENT PROGRAM

- Developments throughout facility bring a renewed approach to local ice sports -

London, ON (December 8, 2014) – Buckingham Sports Properties Company today announced the completion of the recently restored London Sports Park.

The private investment and recent transaction involved no government funding and tapped into the latest environmentally friendly technology – in an arena that some feel was neglected for a long while.

“We found a classic property that showed so much potential, we knew that we could make it a great asset for the community – and now we can share it with the City of London and surrounding area,” says JohnCook, Vice President at Buckingham. “It represents what we strive to do here at Buckingham.”

Improvements include:

• Two new ice surfaces

• New dressing rooms

• Better access to the facility with new parking options

• New look lobby area

• Accessibility ramps added throughout the facility

• Upgrades and renovations to the banquet hall

• Overall detailing (inside and out) of the venue

• Major energy efficiency upgrades

London Sports Park worked closely with London Hydro to retro-fit the facility with an energy efficient electrical system, including a modification of the compressor motors. Interior LED lighting and parking lot lighting represents an important part of the overall upgrade. As well, water usage and hydro is now decreased by 50 percent, based on current rates, increasing the overall energy efficiency of a vintage and storied arena.

"Buckingham is showing leadership by investing in new and exciting technologies that will reduce energy costs and have the arena operate more efficiently,” says Hans Schreff, Manager of Conservation at London Hydro. “Utilizing the latest technologies to reduce energy usage while increasing the user experience speaks to Buckingham's commitment to providing a great atmosphere, while making a solid investment in the London community.”

The new LED lighting will brighten the ice surface and use less than half of the energy of the older system. The energy saved as a result of the upgrade is equivalent to the amount used by approximately 15 homes.

The Buckingham project speaks to the company’s interest in supporting hockey and other ice sports in Ontario, while tapping into the idea that corporations can step in and create change for the good of a region.
